The benefits of mini-split air conditioners

Why are more and more people choosing Fujitsu mini split air conditioners for their Lancaster air conditioning needs? Here are five of the biggest benefits we've noticed about mini split air conditioners.

  1. They serve a dual purpose. In the summer, they keep you cool. In the winter, they double as a heat pump.
  2. The supply only the cleanest possible air in whatever room they work in.
  3. They are quiet and dependable, as the compressor is installed outside.
  4. For air conditioning units, there are fewer that are less trouble-free and dependable.
  5. You'll be cooled no matter where you are in your home, thanks to its zoning capabilities.

The Wonders of an Electronic Thermostat

A thermostat is a device that allows you to set the desired temperature in your home, which your heating or cooling system will work to meet. The problem with older thermostats is that, unless you remember to move your thermostat manually each time you leave the home or go to sleep, the temperature tries to stay constant. This expends energy that might not need to be used.

This predicament can be solved with the installation of an electronic thermostat. If your thermostat controls the cooling system in your home, you can program your thermostat to only operate when you're present. During periods where you're at work, you can tell your thermostat to stop regulating your indoor temperature. Before you arrive home, you can instruct the cooling system to turn on and bring your home's temperature back down to a comfortable level.

When you consider the amount of time that your cooling system would not have to run during the day, you're talking about a significant amount of savings on energy costs. There are many different makes and models of electronic thermostats -- some that provide the basic programming ability, and others that go incredibly in-depth and venture into advanced home automation territory. Green Zone Heating & Cooling can help you install an electronic thermostat in your home and help you save today. Give us a call at (717) 277-8348.

Keeping Your Home Cool in Warmer Weather

Certain regions in Pennsylvania have experienced warm temperatures over the past few days, though the temperatures now are only a small preview of what's to come in the summer. When summer arrives in three short months, temps will reach into the 80s and 90s, and home dwellers will be battling to stay cool.

One important step to take is to make sure your home is closed up tight. You don't want to let heat into the home. Keeping windows shaded will stop the sun from heating your home, as well. Ceiling fans can also help you move air around the home and create a cooling breeze. Lastly, if you're operating an air conditioner, be sure you're using the correct size for your home or apartment.

Keep your doors open!

Do you know what helps air flow into all your rooms and helps your home or apartment heat or cool more quickly? (Hint: read the title of this post)
Leaving doors open around your home gives the warm or cold air two different ways to reach all of your rooms; through vents, or through the air circulation that occurs from room to room. When your home heats or cools faster, your HVAC system is used less, and you begin to see major energy savings as a result.

Outdoor HVAC sytems and plants

When planting flowers, or other types of plants around your outdoor HVAC unit, you'll want to keep them at least 4 feet away from the system. As you can see in the image to the left, the plants are a little close for our liking.

Your HVAC unit takes in air from the sides of the machine. If plants start to block that incoming air from coming in fully, your system has to work harder than normal. If you put too much stress on the unit, issues can begin to creep up.

Keep your HVAC unit working as long as it possibly can. Obey the 4-foot rule and, if you have to plant anything, make it a shrub or another type of plant that won't grow into the vicinity of the system. And if you have any questions or concerns about planting near your HVAC unit, give Green Zone Heating and Cooling a call at (717) 277-8348.

Keep Your Vents Clear

Whether your HVAC system pushes air through a wall vent, or through a floor vent (as pictured), it's very important to keep your vents unblocked.

Why? When a vent is blocked, your HVAC system's air flow becomes disrupted, and makes your system work harder than it has to in order to keep your home's temperature steady. Also, when your system has to work harder, you increase the chance of it having problems later.

Don't place furniture in front of, or on top of, any of the vents in your home. Make sure vents are clear of any dust, hair, or other types of debris that could potentially affect air flow.
